PULLMAN – Parties on Greek Row at Washington State University have been temporarily banned by student leaders in response to an increase alcohol-related medical calls.
The WSU student newspaper The Daily Evergreen first reported that the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils issued an executive order on Tuesday. The order shuts down Greek Row parties until further notice. The councils say they have seen an increase in medical calls and ambulance transports to the hospital on Greek Row related to substance abuse at social events. The ban will remain in effect until WSU fraternities and sororities implement a plan to deal with the problem.
The WSU IFC and Panhellenic Councils have issued a self-imposed party ban for Greek Row before. In the fall of 2016 student leaders banned parties for a few months following a rash of rapes, assaults, falls and alcohol overdoses at Greek Row parties.
