MOSCOW, ID – Members of the University of Idaho Theatre Arts Department have raised nearly $1,900 to help one of their co-workers find new housing after she and her kids lost their place to live following an apartment fire Sunday evening.
Crews with the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department responded to the apartment complex in the 300 block of North Washington Street at approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening. Despite the first engine arriving within four minutes of the initial call, the apartment was determined to be uninhabitable due to the major damage suffered.
The Moscow Fire Marshal later determined the fire was started by a child who accidently started a mattress on fire while playing with a lighter, according to a report from PullmanRadioNews. The Moscow Volunteer Fire Department is working with the family to help educate the child about fire safety.
The Gofundme page for the family, which was organized by Ginger Sorensen and Kelly Quinnett with the UI Theatre Arts Department, has raised a total of $1,895 as of the time of this writing.
Money from the Gofundme will help the family recover and place a first and last month’s deposit down on a new place to live. The family is also being assisted by the American Red Cross.
