LEWISTON - Kiara Burlage notched her fifth double-double of the season and tied a career-high in points on Thursday as she helped lead the 25th ranked Lewis-Clark State Women’s Basketball team to an upset victory over number 22 Montana Western. The Warriors’ team-leader in scoring and rebounding collected another 20 points and 11 rebounds in the 61-40 victory.

After a tightly contested first half that saw the Warriors take a two point lead into halftime, Lewis-Clark State kicked the offense into high gear in the second half and outscored UMW 35-16 over the final two quarters.

“I think we shared the ball a lot better in the second half,” said Jamie Neilson. “That was a huge difference for us. We let ourselves down (on the road) so we had a lot of motivation to get these three and get the fourth one on Saturday.”

Burlage tied a career-high with her game-leading 20 points to go with 11 rebounds. Nielson added 12 points with a pair of 3s. As a team, the Warriors shot 42.9% from the field and 92.3% from the free throw line.

The Warriors held UMW to a field goal percentage of just 21.7% and 10.5% from 3.

The Warriors will wrap up their current home stand on Saturday when they host Number 20, Rocky Mountain at 2:00 P.M.
