INDIANAPOLIS - The nation's top two college basketball teams are set to clash at a neutral site on Saturday morning when the top-ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs (3-0) play the #2 Baylor Bears (3-0) in Indianapolis. Tip-off will be an early one, set for 10:00am. This will mark just the ninth time since 2005 that the #1 and #2 teams in the country will face-off in the regular season.
Gonzaga head coach Mark Few will bring his undefeated squad into this one fresh off a 87-82 victory over 11th ranked West Virginia on Wednesday. Gonzaga overcame a five point half-time deficit to win behind guard Joel Ayayi's 21 points and 19 each from Corey Kispert and Andrew Nembhard.
Through the first three games, forward Drew Timme has led the way in scoring, averaging 23.3 points per game. Timme is also second on the team in rebounds (6.3) behind teammate Joel Ayayi (7.7), who also leads the team in steals per game (2.3).
Gonzaga has two players averaging more than 22 points per game (Timme, Kispert), and five players total averaging at least 11 points per game.
The Bulldogs have already beaten two of the top eleven teams in the country after opening their season with a 102-90 victory over the Kansas Jayhawks.
Baylor is coming off an impressive victory of their own on Wednesday, taking down a top-five ranked opponent in Illinois. The Bears were dominant in the second half, scoring 51 of their 82 points and ultimately winning 82-69. It was the team's first game with head coach Scott Drew, after he was forced to miss the teams first two games after testing positive for COVID-19.
Baylor had four different players score in double figures Wednesday night, and another that scored nine. The Bears have yet to be tested in 2020 after victories by 30, 34, and 13.
From a betting perspective, the "Top Dogs" are favored by 2 points. Saturday morning's game can be seen on CBS, with tip-off at 10:00am.
Gonzaga has been running the gauntlet with their out-of-conference schedule, one of the hardest in the country. After facing three top-12 teams in their first four games, they are also set to face off against the #3 ranked Iowa Hawkeyes on December 19. As it sits, that is the last ranked opponent on their schedule.
