LEWISTON - Fresh off its sixth-place finish at the 2021 NAIA Cross Country National Championships, the Lewis-Clark State Men’s Cross Country team has started to add pieces to next season’s roster. Lewiston’s Kobe Wessels will join the Warriors in the fall of 2022, announced Head Coach Mike Collins on Monday.
“We are excited to add Kobe to our family here,” Collins said. “In fact, I already feel like he has been a part of our program for a very long time. I first met Kobe while he was in elementary school as he was part of our summer Confluence Elite track program. Then it seemed like I saw him at about every fun run that we put on or those that communities around us were sponsoring. He will have no trouble transitioning into what we do here. Coach Potter has done a great job of developing him and we will continue that process and have very high hopes for him in the future. We have some very big shoes to fill and I believe Kobe is ready and willing to help fill them.”
Wessels, a senior at Lewiston High School, holds the program’s third-fastest time in the 5k (15:39). He won districts as an individual this season and finished 19th at the State meet. Also a member of the track team, he ran the fifth-fastest 1600m in school history with a time of 4:36.45.
