LEWISTON - Greenleaf Friends Academy’s Grace Dixon will join Lewis-Clark State Cross Country and Track and Field next season, Head Coach Mike Collins announced on Tuesday.
“We are always excited when athletes commit to our program and join our family, but there are a few here and there that have some other things that make them unique and special,” Collins said. “Grace is one of those kids. We have absolutely no doubt that she is going to come in and help this team get better. She has a great attitude, work ethic and approach to both her athletics and her academics.”
Dixon’s personal-best time in the 5k (19:50) is the second-fastest in school history. She has three top-five finishes at districts and a top-10 finish at State in cross country. On the track, Dixon set the school record in the 1600m as a freshman with a time of 5:29, and holds the second-fastest times in the 3200m (12:11) and 800m (2:27). She has three top-three finishes at districts and a top-10 finish at the State meet.
“Additionally, she is one of those kids that comes from an area that I grew up calling ‘home,’” Collins explained. “I know where she is from, I am familiar with the experiences she has had growing up in a small town and working in an agricultural community. In fact, she goes to church with my parents. We have had runners in the past that are similar and I have always felt we shared a special connection that, in fact, helped me be a better coach for them. And jokingly, I also have to be careful as she may tattle on me next time she is at church. Great kid and looking forward to her becoming a Warrior.”
