SEATTLE - The home of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Sounders will no longer go by the name: CenturyLink Field. Beginning with Thursday night's game between the Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals, the venue will now be called 'Lumen Field.'
The Seahawks made the announcement on social media Thursday morning. The decision was made following CenturyLink's rebrand as Lumen Technologies in September.
"Through a shared vision and commitment to serving the Seattle community, we are proud to enter a new era of world-class sports and entertainment with Lumen Field," said Chuck Arnold, President, Seattle Seahawks and First & Goal Inc. "For nearly two decades, the stadium has made its mark as a premier Seattle venue, and a place for the community to experience thrilling victories, establish sacred traditions, and witness unforgettable moments together. We are excited to build upon that legacy and experience amazing things at Lumen Field for years to come."
Lumen Field is the fourth different name for the venue since its opening in 2002. It opened as Seahawks Stadium in 2002 before entering an agreement for the current naming rights in 2004, taking on the name Qwest Field. CenturyLink then acquired Qwest Communications, and the name was changed to CenturyLink Field in 2011.
