LEWISTON, ID - A representative from Blue Cross of Idaho says there has been much confusion surrounding which insurance providers will continue to hold a contract with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center as an "in network" provider, and which provider is scheduled to list the hospital as "out of network" in early 2020.
Sam Canner, with Blue Cross of Idaho, says it's only Regence Blue Shield of Idaho that has not reached an agreement with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, and Ble Cross of Idaho will continue coverage as usual. Regence Blue Shield of Idaho has not reached an agreement with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, and the hospital is scheduled to be "out of network" for Regence starting January 15, if no agreement is reached. "For clarifying purposes, for the surrounding area... Blue Cross of Idaho continues to have St. Joe’s as an 'in network' provider facility regardless of what happens with Regence," says Canner.
In a statement, Regence Blue Shield of Idaho says, "We have been working transparently and in good faith with St. Joseph Regional Medical Center leadership to reach a fair agreement that best serves the Lewiston community. Unfortunately, St. Joseph’s Tennessee-based owners, LifePoint Health, recently declared that it plans to leave Regence on Jan. 15, 2020, unless it receives significant rate increases for your care. Regence does not want this to happen, and we’re committed to reaching a reasonable agreement that you and your neighbors can afford."
A St. Joseph Regional Medical Center statement says, "It’s always our goal to have long-term insurance contracts in place to provide security for our patients. In fact, we recently worked with Blue Cross of Idaho and First Choice Health Networks on new, multi-year agreements that will ensure patients have the care they need, when they need it."
