CLARKSTON - On Thursday, January 7, at approximately 10:30pm, a Whitman County deputy was on patrol near the intersection of SR 128 and SR 193 at Red Wolf Bridge when the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The suspect vehicle turned onto Port Drive and drove at speeds up to 75 mph in a 25 mph zone as well as disregarding traffic control devices. The driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway striking the adjacent curb and several rocks which flattened several of the vehicle’s tires. The driver continued to drive the vehicle several hundred more feet before losing control of the vehicle a second time and impacting a telephone pole and cable box.
The driver, identified as 35-year-old Steven K. Young, of Clarkston, was taken into custody for attempting to elude a law enforcement officer. Clarkston PD, Asotin County Deputies, and Clarkston Ambulance arrived on scene to assist.
Two passengers in the vehicle were detained and evaluated by EMT’s for minor injuries and then released shortly after the collision.

Young is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms. Also located in the vehicle were items related to methamphetamines and heroin possession.
