SPOKANE – A 38-year-old Spokane man who was previously convicted of killing his ex-wife has now been convicted of a second murder.
On January 30, 2023, Nathan O. Beal was convicted of pre-meditated 1st degree murder in Spokane Superior Court for the shooting death of 30-year-old Andrew M. Bull. The homicide happened nearly three years ago.
On April 3, 2020, just after midnight, officers responded to an alley in the 900 block of W. 2nd Ave for a deceased male. The man, who was identified as Bull, sustained a single gunshot wound.
Detectives with SPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded to the scene. Despite diligent efforts including scouring the downtown area for video surveillance, detectives initially had few leads.
Then on August 8th, 2020, in a separate incident, Mary Shaffer, who was the ex-wife of Beal, was found deceased in her car from a gunshot wound. Beal was arrested in connection to her death.
Evidence collected in Shaffer’s case was then linked to Bull’s homicide. When probable cause was established to arrest Beal for the murder of Bull, Beal was already in custody for the murder of Shaffer.
Beal will be sentenced at a later date.
