COLFAX - On Thursday, September 10 the SE Washington Type 3 Inter-Agency Team provided an update on the Colfax, Manning and Babbs/Malden Fires in Whitman County. All three fires were reported on Monday, September 7.

The Colfax Fire is 100% contained, and is estimated at 5 acres. The fire destroyed three single family residences and one shop. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The Manning fire is now estimated at 3,063 acres and is 25% contained. The fire has destroyed three single family residences, one other structure and one historical bridge was burnt and destroyed. Fire Control lines are in place. On Thursday, crews will focus on hotspots and mop up operations.

The Babb/Malden fire remains at 0% containment, and is now estimated at 17,781 acres. Over 80% of the town of Malden was destroyed by the fire. Destroyed structures include 121 single family residences, 8 commercial properties and 94 other structures. Four single family residences were also badly damaged. Fire crews continue to build and strengthen control lines as operations continue to identify any potential hazards in the towns of Malden and Pine City.

Pine City-Malden Road is currently closed from the westside of Pine City to the eastside of Malden. The communities of St. John, Sunset, Thornton and Ewan are at level 2 evacuations. Please refer to the Whitman County Sheriff's Facebook page for more information on closures and evacuations.
