We are saddened to report that 64-year-old Benjamin C. Nichols has succumbed to his injuries suffered during the crash. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Nichols family during this difficult time.

CLARKSTON - On Friday, May 19, 2023 at approximately 11:59 AM, Asotin County dispatch received a report of an injury collision at the intersection of Critchfield Road and Swallows Nest Drive.

Initial reports stated the accident was between a four door SUV and a motorcycle and the driver of the motorcycle was unconscious. Asotin County deputies responded along with the Asotin County Fire Department and medics from the Lewiston Fire Department.

The driver of the Subaru was identified as 79-year-old Richard B Hensley, from Lewiston, ID. The driver of the motorcycle was identified as 64-year-old Benjamin C. Nichols, of Clarkston, WA. Nichols is the Prosecutor in Asotin County. 

According to a press release from the Asotin County Sheriff's Office, based upon witness statements and the preliminary investigation Nichols was traveling eastbound on Critchfield Rd and Hensley was travelling west. Nichols was just passing the intersection of Swallows Nest Dr. when Hensley attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Swallows Nest Dr and collided with Nichols.

Nichols reportedly suffered severe injuries and was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center before being air lifted to Sacred Heart in Spokane. Hensley did not suffer any injuries.

The investigation is ongoing at this time and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

As of May 19, 2023, 4:00 PM, The Asotin County Sheriff’s Office has been advised that Benjamin C. Nichols has succumbed to his injuries.
