PULLMAN - The Target Zero Washington State Strategic Highway Safety Plan aims to improve roadway safety to reach zero deaths and zero serious injuries on Washington roadways by 2030. Traffic fatalities and serious injuries in Washington State have increased over recent years, following national trends. Target Zero identifies key actions that local law enforcement agencies can take toward improving traffic safety.

The Pullman Police Department has partnered with the Washington State University Police Department, and the Whitman County Sheriffs Office, to plan high-visibility emphasis patrols that focus on impaired and distracted driving in our local area. These efforts are supported by the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission, which awarded $62,500 of shared grant funding to participating agencies in 2021. These funds are used to reimburse officer overtime accrued as a direct result of Target Zero patrol activities.

Officers will participate in a variety of emphasis patrol efforts throughout the year, including holiday DUI patrols, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”, “U Text. U Drive. U Pay.”, and “On the Road, Off the Phone” campaign patrols. Pullman PD is proud to partner with local law enforcement agencies to increase awareness of Target Zero efforts, and to improve the safety of our local roadways.
