COLFAX, WA - Sunday afternoon Whitman County Deputies and medics from Fire District 14 and the Lewiston Fire Department responded to the report of a two vehicle injury accident near Granite Point on the Snake River.
Based on initial information released by the Whitman County Sheriff's Office, 37-year-old Nathan Miller, of Lewiston, was traveling west on Wawawai Road in his 2011 Mercedes Sedan when he collided with another westbound vehicle from behind.
According to witnesses, Miller had just completed a pass of an uninvolved vehicle when the vehicle in front of his started to slow or pull off the road. It was at that time Miller’s vehicle struck the 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon, forcing it off the roadway and into about 3 feet of water in the Snake River. The driver of the Outback was able to safely get out of the vehicle and back on shore.
A female passenger in Miller’s vehicle was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston with non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported. The incident is still under investigation and the Whitman County Sheriff's Office says alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor. Miller was arrested on charges of Driving Under the Influence as a result.
