KOOSKIA – On Thursday, February 2, first responders were called to a medical emergency at Jerry Johnson Hot Springs. These hot springs are located on HWY 12 about 77 miles East of Kooskia. United States Forest workers arrived first on the scene and hiked about 2 miles into the forest to the hot springs to assist the patient. They started emergency care and contacted Life Flight to help them extradite the patient. The Life Flight crew were able to land and hike, approximately .5 mile meeting United States Forest Service personnel who had hiked back 1.5 miles with the patient. Life Flight was then able to take over patient care Kooskia Ambulance and EMS crew were still in route making the long 77 mile commute to the scene. Once the patient was transported to the trail head, Life Flight was then able to transport the patient to the proper medical facility equipped to handle the the type of patient care the patient’s condition required.
Kooskia Emergency Services shared a Facebook post thanking Life Flight, Lowell QRU, Idaho Fish & Game, United States Forrest Service and our Idaho County Sheriff’s Office Dispatchers for the imperative roles they played in assisting with the incident.
