FLAGSTAFF, AZ - The 2019 season for the Idaho Vandal football team will come to an end this Saturday when they travel to take on the Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona.
Both teams have had very similar seasons. Both come into this game with 4-7 records, with each being 2-5 in Big Sky Conference play. Home cooking seems to be a real thing for these squads too. The Vandals and Lumberjacks are both far more comfortable playing in front of a home crowd, going a combined 0-11 on the road, but 8-3 at home.
Idaho comes in trying to end the season on a positive note and avoid a three game losing streak to close the year. The Vandals are currently coming off back to back losses against two of the top three teams in the Big Sky, most recently a 31-7 home annihilation at the hands of Sacramento State.
On the road this year, the Vandals offense has been on the struggle bus. They are averaging less than two touchdowns a game away from Moscow, 12.8 points per game to be exact.
If they are to have success against Northern Arizona, it will likely have to come on the shoulders of the running game. The teams leading rusher Aundre Carter ran just seven times for 14 yards one week ago, but now will get a crack at a Lumberjacks defense who gave up 195 yards on the ground to Southern Utah in their last outing.
The Lumberjacks may have fell 31-30 in that one, but the offense showed up and did their part. Case Cookus was impressive. Cookus finished the day 32 of 44, completing 73% of his passes, for 325 yards and a touchdown, and even ran one in for a score too.
His favorite target, Brandon Porter, eclipsed the 150 yard mark too, bringing in ten receptions including snagging the lone touchdown pass from Cookus. The running back duo of George Romero-Robinson and Joe Logan also had solid outings, combining 156 yards on 30 carries and a touchdown.
The game is set for a 1:00 P.M. kickoff in the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome.
