LEWISTON, ID - Two men are in custody after fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle and crashing into a house. According to Lewiston Police, at around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, a Lewiston officer attempted to stop a 1994 Ford Probe near St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. The vehicle had been stolen earlier in the day in Clarkston. Police say the driver fled from the officer, reaching speeds in excess of 50 mph and running stop signs in the residential neighborhood.
For safety reasons, the officer discontinued his attempts to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued to drive recklessly and ended up losing control as they negotiated a corner at 11th Avenue and 7th Street. The vehicle crashed into the front porch at 630 11th Avenue, where two men fled from the vehicle on foot. Witnesses to the crash directed police to where the men were last seen running.
Officers located 28-year-old Robert W. Hancock on the LCSC campus and arrested him on a warrant. 27-year-old Joshua J. Wilson was arrested in the 800 block 8th of Avenue. He was charged with eluding, unlawful entry, and grand theft by possession of stolen property; all felonies. He was also charged with misdemeanor striking fixtures. Both men are reportedly homeless and were booked into the Nez Perce County Jail. A reported 3rd occupant was not found.
Despite there being three residents at home at the time of the collision, there were no injuries.
