LEWISTON - At approximately 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Lewiston Police responded to a residential burglary in the 600 block of Main Street.

The Lewiston Police Department says two male suspects were observed on a Ring doorbell camera removing luggage, bags, and golf clubs from an apartment complex. Two female neighbors attempted to stop one of the suspects from fleeing. The suspect began strangling one of the females. The second female came to her aid and began striking the suspect several times in the head.

The suspect then fled the area, leaving behind his jacket and messenger bag containing his wallet and identification. Police say the suspect was identified as 38-year-old Lewiston transient, Timothy Wilson. Wilson was spotted by a citizen later in the evening in the 600 block of Main Street. Lewiston Police responded and were able to arrest Wilson without incident.

Through further investigation it was determined the identity of the second male suspect was 41-year-old Moscow transient, Jason Bright. Lewiston Police, with the assistance of Nez Perce County Sheriff deputies, conducted a search of a nearby building where Bright was located a short time later and arrested without incident.

Wilson was charged with two counts of burglary and one count of aggravated battery. Bright was charged with two counts of burglary. The stolen property was recovered during the arrests.

Police say one of the female neighbors suffered a broken hand in her effort to stop Wilson from strangling her roommate and fleeing the scene.

In a press release, the Lewiston Police Department praised the assistance provided by the Nez Perce County Sheriff’s Office, neighbors, and witnesses. "The assistance provided by citizens provided crucial information leading to the swift arrests of these suspects. We would like to remind citizens to use caution and safely evaluate a situation when determining to intervene," says the LPD release.
