GRANGEVILLE, ID - Earlier this month, the Grangeville City Council made the decision to not open the popular Snowhaven Ski & Tubing Area, pointing to State of Idaho Stage 2 COVID-19 guidelines.  The attraction is owned by the city.

One area resident has started an online petition to encourage the City Council to take another look at that decision. "I believe that they did not reach this decision lightly, however I do not believe that this is the best option for our community. While COVID-19 is a genuine concern, so is the mental and physical health of the people in our community," says Katherine Manifold's petition. CLICK HERE to view the petition.

"Many other ski hills in the state are choosing to remain open with safety protocols in place. I believe that Snowhaven could do the same. There are many protocols that could be put in place to make it a safe environment for us to recreate. Snowhaven is, for the most part, an outdoor sport anyway and naturally lends itself to social distancing, face coverings and gloves," says Manifold's statement on the petition website.

As of Monday morning, over 100 had signed the petition.  The annual Snowhaven Ski Swap, originally scheduled for December 11-12 was also cancelled.
