LEWISTON, ID - Most of the region is under either a Flash Flood Watch, Hazardous Weather Outlook, or Red Flag Warning. The Red Flag Warning is set to expire today, as the National Weather Service predicts heavy rain to come with scattered severe thunderstorms Saturday afternoon and evening. The NWS says the strongest of storms will be able to produce gusts up to 60 mph with one inch hail. All thunderstorms will be capable of producing heavy downpours. These storms have also prompted the NWS to issue a Flash Flood Watch for areas including Grangeville, Orofino, China Bar, Indian Creek near the Salmon River, Mackay Bar near the Salmon River, the Woodrat Burn Area, and along Highway 95 from Riggins to Whitebird. A 70 mile portion if US95, between Grangeville and New Meadows, was shut down last night due to rock and mud slides, and remains closed until further notice. The Flash Flood Watch is in effect from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday.
