LEWISTON - Since the fires of the Snake River Complex started last week, the Nez Perce County Sheriff's Office says it has taken a report of potential looting in the Waha area.
According to a press release, the Sheriff's Office became aware of a suspicious vehicle believed to be looting homes after a home owner observed a suspicious vehicle in the area. Deputies had already stopped the suspicious vehicle and identified why they were in the area.
As of Monday morning, there have been no additional looting reports. "The Sheriff's Office was made aware of social media complaints about looting and we want to make it very clear we are out here protecting the community," says the NPCSO release.
"Our deputies are patrolling the area, checking on evacuated houses, and stopping suspicious vehicles," said Sheriff Bryce Scrimsher. "If anyone dares to try and take advantage of this situation by stealing, let this be a warning to you. My deputies are good, and they will not leave any stone unturned to bring you to justice. We will find you," said Sheriff Scrimsher.
Anyone who notices suspicious vehicles or persons, you are encouraged to call 9-1-1 or the Nez Perce County Sheriffs Office non-emergency number, 208-799-3131.
