LEWISTON, ID - Just past 9:00 p.m. Saturday, Lewiston Police were dispatched to a traffic collision at the intersection of Levee Bypass Road and D Street. The initial information reported was that a motorcycle had been involved in a collision with a mini-van. Information from witnesses also indicated that the motorcycle rider was injured.
When Lewiston Police arrived, officers found a 2004 Yamaha motorcycle in the intersection and it was leaking fluid. The rider had been thrown off the motorcycle and medics were called to the scene to treat the injuries. The other vehicle involved in the crash was a 1997 Dodge Caravan, that driver was not injured.
The driver of the motorcycle was transported by ambulance to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. An LPD release says it appears the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Levee Bypass Road, and the mini-van was traveling southbound. The van driver attempted to make a left turn onto D Street and the two collided.
The Lewiston Police Department's Major Collision Investigation Team was called to the scene to investigate. The intersection of Levee Bypass Road and D Street was closed for approximately three hours for the initial investigation. As of Sunday morning, the LPD says there have been no charges filed as the collision is still under investigation.
The LPD says the names of those involved are not being released at this time. Police ask anyone who witnessed the incident who has not been contacted by police to call (208) 746-0171 and request to speak to Sergeant Craig Roberts.
