WHITEBIRD, ID - Just past 6:00 p.m Friday evening, police and medics responded to a fatal crash on US95, just south of Whitebird. According to Idaho State Police, a 1996 Dodge pickup, driven by 20-year-old Nicholas Holland of Sandpoint, was traveling northbound when police say he sideswiped a white 2006 Toyota Corolla driven by 26-year-old Theresa Saunders, of Pullman.
Holland then crossed the southbound lane and down a 200 foot embankment. Holland was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Holland's passenger, 20-year-old Wesley Holland of Sandpoint, was transported to Syringa Hospital in Grangeville and treated for minor injuries. Saunders and her passenger, 26-year-old Benjamin Saunders of Pullman, were both wearing seatbelts and were uninjured. Holland was not wearing a seatbelt. Idaho State Police are still investigating.
