LEWISTON - Starting this month, the L-C Valley Habitat for Humanity (LCV HFH) will begin offering a 'Finally Home!' homebuyer education course, in partnership with the Moscow Affordable Housing Trust. The 6-hour course will walk participants through all important stages and processes of homebuying including budgeting and credit, working with a real estate agent, obtaining loan financing, home inspection, and what to expect at closing. Because it was developed by Idaho Housing and Finance, the program is HUD approved and meets or exceeds most loan program requirements.
Research has shown that people who received pre-purchase housing counseling were 1/3 less likely to fall seriously behind on their mortgages. Classes are open to all area residents. LCV HFH recommends anyone interested in applying for participation on their Affordable Home Ownership Program in the future consider taking this course as it will help applicants be in a better position to apply when the time comes.
The 'Finally Home!' Homebuyer education classes consist of seven chapters that guide participants through the home buying process and empower them to make informed homeownership choices. Upon completion of the course, class members receive a certificate as proof of participation.
The course will be offered Tuesday, April 20 and Wednesday, April 21 from 5:30 to 8:30pm at the Lewiston Idaho Housing and Finance Association conference room, 2338 Nez Perce Drive, opposite of Home Depot. Cost is only $15 per household, and scholarships are available by calling Deb at 208-792-7568.
