ELK CITY, ID - The Idaho County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the homicide of 59-year-old LeAnna Maree Bailey, in the Elk City area. According to the Sheriff's Office, Bailey had been living in the area since about May at her brother's property on Wild Rose Lane. Bailey was at the property to clean up and prepare the property for sale.

On September 17, 2020, Edmond Bailey reported his sister missing. After an initial investigation, LeAnna’s death was believed to have occurred on the night of September 14 or the morning of September 15th. Her body was found on September 19 in the back of her red Saturn SUV off an embankment, about 3 miles from her residence. A hunter had found her car.

An autopsy was conducted by the Ada County Coroner’s Office on September 21, which was attended by a Sheriff’s Office detective and Idaho County Coroner Cody Funke.  Bailey incurred a number of injuries by various means, any one of which could have caused her death, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Investigators have interviewed and conducted polygraph exams on a number of people and witnesses in Elk City, and a release from the Idaho County Sheriff's Office says the investigation will be continuing until a suspect is identified and charged.

Investigators say one person who was cooperating with the investigation was 47-year-old Billy Jack Jones, who took his own life on October 8 at his residence in Elk City. Jones had been interviewed several times, but was unable to complete a polygraph examination due to a medical issue. Jones had made an appointment with a doctor and was scheduled for another polygraph examination subsequent to medical treatment.
