BOISE - During a weekly COVID-19 briefing on Tuesday, officials with the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare say the statewide testing positivity rate is at an all-time high of 34.1%. Fueled by the fast spreading omicron variant, some testing locations around Idaho are reporting positivity rates as high as 60%.
On Tuesday, Idaho logged an additional 3,518 positive cases.
On top of the record high positivity numbers, there are over 40,000 positive lab results that have not been included in the state’s daily counts, because they are awaiting review. At-home COVID-19 test results are not included in the officials positive test count.
"This surge is different than the delta surge late last year. During the delta surge, there was focused pressure on critical care capacity. With the omicron surge, there is tremendous pressure on the entire Idaho healthcare system,” said Dave Jeppesen, Director at Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.
