IDAHO COUNTY - On Thursday, the Idaho County Sheriff's Office is remembering Deputy John Thomas Huston, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver while on duty 33 years ago today.

On September 22, 1989, Deputy Sheriff Huston was operating a roadblock during the search of two escaped prisoners from the North Idaho Correctional Institution when he was struck by a drunk driver. The driver immediately fled the scene, however was arrested a short time later. 

Deputy Huston, who was 33-years-old at the time of the incident, had served with the Idaho County Sheriff's Office for nine years and had previously served four years with the United States Army.

He was survived by his wife and three children.
