LEWISTON - Multiple schools in Lewiston had a "Hats On" day on Friday in support of a Jenifer Middle School student who was hospitalized after suffering serious burns.
According to a Gofundme page, Paxtin was leaning over the bathroom counter when his shirt caught fire on a candle that was lit on the counter. Following the accident, Paxtin had to be transported to the pediatric burn ICU at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Following the incident, some of Paxtin's fellow classmates at Jenifer Middle School came together "in true Burro form" asking if they could support him and his family with the 'Hats on for Paxtin Day,' according to a social media post from the Lewiston Independent School District.
On Friday, with a donation of any amount, students were allowed to wear a hat in class for the day. All money raised will be given to the family to help with finances related to his treatment and travel to Seattle.
Jenifer Middle School, Sacajawea Middle School, Webster Elementary, McSorley Elementary, and Orchards Elementary in Lewiston are all participating in 'Hats on for Paxtin Day.' The reach has even gone outside of the LC Valley, with the Nezperce School District announcing their participation as well.
"We don't know Paxtin, but we will do this and cut a check to the Lewiston Independent School District so they can get it to him," read a post shared on Facebook by the Nezperce School District.
If you would like to support, donations are also being accepted at the Jenifer Middle School office. The Gofundme to support Paxtin can also be found HERE.
The Nezperce School District announced Friday that students throughout the district raised $500, with students and staff members bringing in donations to wear a hat on Friday. 'The Only Store' in Nezperce, also announced they would match that amount. In total, the Nezperce School District will be providing $1000 to Jenifer Middle School to give to Paxtin's family.
