LEWISTON - At just before 4 A.M. this morning, fire crews were dispatched to a reported house fire at 3114 8th Street in the Lewiston Orchards. Lewiston Police were the first to arrive and reported heavy fire and smoke coming from the home.

First arriving crews found fire through the roof of the structure and due to the heavy fire involvement, took a defensive attack. A defensive attack is fighting the fire from the outside until the main body of the fire can be knocked down allowing crews to safely enter the building.

Crews had the fire knocked down in about 30 minutes, but will remain on scene for a few hours putting out hot spots and assisting with the fire investigation.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported and no one was home when the fire started.

Lewiston Police provided traffic control at the scene and Avista responded and cut power and natural gas to the home. The cause of the fire in currently under investigation and the damage to the structure is estimated at $150,000.
