OROFINO, ID - The Clearwater County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a wildfire near mile marker 2 on Upper Fords Creek Road in Orofino at about 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association, Orofino Fire, and Upper Fords Creek Fire responded to the fire.
Two helicopters were designated to assist in fighting the fire. The fire was contained to approximately six acres.
The Clearwater County Sheriff's Office says the initial investigation determined the cause of the fire was a single vehicle crash. The sole occupant of the vehicle, identified as 20-year-old Mason Patten Teel, of Orofino, was pronounced deceased on scene.
Upper Fords Creek was closed for approximately two hours on Wednesday.
