BOISE, ID - A request to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to reconsider a decision to force Idaho to provide gender surgery to a sex offender prison inmate was shot down on Monday as the court ruled the order will stand. Last August, the court handed down a decision to uphold Judge B. Lynn Winmill’s ruling that the State of Idaho must provide gender reassignment surgery to transgender inmate and sex offender Adree Edmo, also known as Mason Dean Edmo.
Edmo is currently serving out a 7 year sentence in a men's prison until July of 2021, after being convicted on a charge of sexual abuse of a child under 16. Edmo is anatomically male, and self identifies as female. Idaho Governor Brad Little has already stated that Idaho will appeal the case to the U.S. Supreme Court. Edmo initially sued Idaho in 2017, claiming distress because of gender dysphoria.
