**UPDATED STORY (6/21/22)**
The Clearwater County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that one person was killed in the residential structure fire in the Hidden Village area of Orofino on Saturday. According to the CCSO, the deceased occupant of the residence has been identified as 60-year-old Robert Marc Mason.
The cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation.
OROFINO - On Saturday, June 18, 2022 at approximately 1:39 p.m., the Orofino Fire Department, Clearwater County Sheriff's Office and Clearwater County Ambulance were dispatched to a structure fire located at #5 Chinook Lane, in the Hidden Village area in Orofino.
According to the Clearwater County Sheriff's Office, witnesses reported the structure to be fully engulfed with one occupant still inside.
Orofino Fire Crews arrived on scene and were able to contain the fire. Following an investigation, the State Fire Marshal's Office determined the cause of the fire to be the improper use of an extension cord and ruled the fire to be accidental.
When reached out to for comment, the Clearwater County Sheriff's Office would not confirm if there was an occupant inside the home or if this fire resulted in a fatality. The investigation remains ongoing.
