LEWISTON - A Clarkston woman is in custody after crashing her car and fleeing the scene in Lewiston. Just before 9:00 p.m. Friday, emergency personnel responded to the 400 block of D Street in Lewiston for the report of an injury collision. Witnesses reported a passenger car crashing into a parked vehicle on D Street. The driver walked away from the accident with a small child.
Arriving Lewiston Police officers, with the assistance of witnesses, found the driver, 30-year-old Brittney M. Raney, a few blocks away on D Street. Brittney had her 9-year-old child with her. Police say the initial investigation revealed that Brittney was driving west on D Street at a high rate of speed. She ran the red stop light at 5th Street and D Street, striking a curb. She then lost control of her vehicle and collided with a parked vehicle on D Street. Both vehicles were significantly damaged. No other property was damaged.
Raney was arrested for Driving Under the Influence, Felony Injury to a Child, Reckless Driving, Striking an Unattended Vehicle, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. She was booked into the Nez Perce County Jail. D Street was partially blocked for an hour during the investigation. The 9-year-old was released to a family member at the scene.
