KAMIAH - On Monday, June 22 at approximately 2:05pm, the Lewis County Dispatch received a call reporting an armed man walking in the area of 2nd St, and Mernita St in the City of Kamiah. Deputies responded to the area and learned that the man with the gun had made statements regarding shooting an individual that was residing in Dale's Trailer Court.
Lewis County Deputies also learned that the man had left the area on foot traveling towards the Wa-A' Yas Community Center. Witnesses identified the man with the gun as 30-year-old Travis Pena, of Kamiah. Local businesses were then placed into lockdown for public safety.
Additional County Sheriff's units from Lewis County, Idaho County, and The Nezperce Tribal Police units were dispatched to the City of Kamiah attempting to locate Pena. Eye witness accounts lead Lewis County, Idaho County and Nezperce Tribal units to the Pine Ridge area where Pena had been observed entering a timbered area near Lawyers Creek. A short time later Pena was was located on Airport Rd where he was taken into custody by the Nezperce Tribal Police without incident.
