HARPSTER - In the early morning hours of Saturday, July 4 at approximately 1:45am, the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an injury accident that had occurred on Highway 14, somewhere between milepost 2-5.
The injured party, later identified as 28-year-old Jay Williams, of Orofino, advised he was in a vehicle on Highway 14, when the vehicle, a 2014 white Dodge pickup left the roadway and went into the river. Williams was able to get out of the vehicle and a passerby picked him up. At that time he advised there was another person still in the vehicle, 20-year-old Tyler Cochrell, age 20.
Upon arrival deputies searched the area and were unable to locate Cochrell or the vehicle. Deputies had located where the vehicle entered the water, but the pickup was not visible. At this time, water levels are too high and the water too swift for divers to safely locate or retrieve the vehicle.
Family has been notified and Mr. Cochrell is considered missing at this time.
