IDAHO – The Idaho Girls State Basketball Tournaments will kick off in southern Idaho later this week, with local teams well represented. Kendrick (1AD2), Deary (1AD2), Lapwai (1AD1), Prairie (1AD1) and Grangeville (2A) have all earned their way to the state tournament and have a chance to be crowned the best in their classification in Idaho.
State tournament action will kick off Thursday morning (February 16), with the championship games set to be played Saturday (February 18).
1AD1 Girls Tournament
- 2022 Champion: Lapwai
After finishing the regular season 23-1, the Lapwai Wildcat girls have earned the top seed in the Idaho 1ADI State tournament for the second straight year. Head Coach Ada Marks and the Wildcats are also seeking to repeat as state champions after taking down Prairie 63-37 in last year’s title game.
The aforementioned Prairie Pirates will be the #2 seed in the 2023 state tournament.

1AD2 Girls Tournament
- 2022 Champion: Rockland
In the 1AD2 classification, the Deary Mustangs (17-2) have earned the top seed ahead of the defending champion Rockland Bulldogs, who will come in as the #2 seed with a record of 20-3.
Deary won’t be the only 1AD2 Whitepine League represented at the state tournament, as the Kendrick Tigers (16-4) will be the #3 seed.

2A Girls Tournament
- 2022 Champion: Cole Valley
After finishing in 3rd place at State last season, the Grangeville Bulldog Girls are back in the 2023 Idaho 2A State Tournament, this time as the #6 seed. The Grangeville Girls finished the season atop the 2A Central Idaho League with a 15-8 record, including a perfect 6-0 in league play.
The top seed in the 2A classification went to Melba, who is widely regarded as one of the best teams in the state regardless of classification. So far in 2022-23, Melba is a perfect 23-0. Cole Valley, last year’s 2A state champion, will be the #3 seed.

3A Girls Tournament
- 2022 Champion: Sugar-Salem
Sugar-Salem (15-6) will look to defend their 3A crown at the 2023 state tournament, this time as the #4 seed in the bracket. However top-seeded Snake River (20-3) and #2 seed Timberline (20-2) have other plans.

4A Girls Tournament
- 2022 Champion: Burley
There will be a new champion crowned in the 4A classification after last year’s champion Burley Bobcats failed to make the 2023 tournament.
Shelley, who finished 20-3, will be the top seed of the 2023 tournament.

5A Girls Tournament
- 2022 Champion: Timberline
Coeur d’Alene (21-2) will be the top seed in the 5A classification after an impressive regular season with only two blemishes. The Vikings are blowing out their opponents on a regular basis, averaging 61.5 points per game while giving up an average of only 38.
