MOSCOW – The home where four University of Idaho students were murdered last year is scheduled to be demolished starting Thursday.
The UI is set to tear down the home on King Road near campus starting Thursday morning. Former Washington State University criminal justice student Bryan Kohberger is accused of killing the students inside the home in November of last year. Kohberger is charged with first degree murder for allegedly killing Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves.
Kohberger’s trial date hasn’t been set yet but the Latah County Prosecutor’s Office is asking for a trial next summer. Prosecutors are pursuing the death penalty against Kohberger. Both the prosecution and the defense have visited the home in recent weeks. The FBI gathered data at the home in October. According to a UI press release from last week neither the prosecution nor the defense have asked for the house to stay in place.
Germer Construction in Moscow will be tearing down the home at a reduced cost to the UI. The previous property owner gave the home to the UI after the murders. The administration hasn’t announced what it will do with the property. The UI is planning to build a memorial healing garden on campus to honor the students.
King Road will be closed for the demolition which could take several days.
