SPOKANE, WA – On February 4, Spokane Valley Deputies and Emergency Operations Team (EOT) members successfully rescued a dog that fell through the ice approximately 40 yards off-shore on Shelley Lake in Spokane.
EOT crews responded to the lake at approximately 6:10 p.m. Saturday evening, according to a press release from the Spokane Valley Police Department. Upon arrival, EOT Diver Deputy Stephan Moore, wearing an ice rescue suit and tethered to EOT members on shore, began making his way out on the thin ice covering Shelley Lake. After making it out to the dog, Deputy Moore broke through the ice and fell into the water himself, but not before securing the dog in his arms. Deputy Moore then signaled to EOT members on the shore to pull them back to safety via rope.
Spokane Valley Firefighters also assisted during this rescue and provided aid to the extremely wet and cold canine until SCRAPS arrived.
