Each week we shine a spotlight on animals at local shelters that are looking for their forever home.
This week’s Big Country Pet of the Week is Smaug.
Smaug
Smaug is waiting to meet his new family at the Humane Society of the Palouse. He is a 6-month-old, neutered, 40lbs, growing pit bull mix puppy. Described by shelter staff as sweet, energetic, focused, outgoing, and playful.
Smaug is a very sweet boy who has spent most of his life in the shelter. Since he practically grew up at HSoP, Smaug is still working on his manners. He would love to find a family with the time available to properly train him and help him become the wonderful dog we know he can be. Smaug came to HSoP as a very young stray puppy, so we aren’t sure how he gets along with cats or other dogs. He did arrive with some siblings who had already been adopted, and he got along just fine with them during playtime. Smaug has gone on many walks with our volunteers but is still figuring out exactly how the leash works. He’s a fan of running around freely outside, and enjoys chewing on tougher toys. Being some sort of pit bull mix, Smaug will need daily exercise to ensure both his physical and mental needs are met. Smaug is a very sweet dog with a hilarious personality. He has a healthy curiosity about the world around him and is always eager to make new friends. Smaug is already neutered, up to date on vaccines, and will leave HSoP with a microchip containing his new owner’s information. Every adoption comes with a seven-day foster period to help ensure a good fit for the whole family.
To meet Smaug (or any of his dragon-named siblings), contact the Humane Society of the Palouse at 2019 E White Ave., Moscow, Idaho 83843. 208) 883-1166 or Information@humanesocietyofthepalouse.org. The canine adoption fee is $135.
