PULLMAN – On Monday August 31st, 2026, Pullman officers arrested 24-year old Alexander T. Murphy of Pullman, for Rape 2nd Degree and Assault 2nd Degree.
The investigation began in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 29th, when it was reported to Pullman Police that a sexual assault had occurred at about 2:00am that morning, in the 900 block of NE Colorado Street.
Members of the Pullman Police Department’s Sexual Assault Investigation Team coordinated care for the victim, and gathered information and evidence. This led them to establish probable cause that a forcible rape and strangulation had occurred. Officers identified the suspect, Alexander Murphy.
Murphy met with officers on Monday afternoon, and was subsequently arrested and booked into the Whitman County Jail, without incident. No additional suspects are outstanding, and there is no ongoing risk to the public
Pullman’s Sexual Assault Investigation Team is comprised of highly-trained patrol officers and detectives. The Pullman Police Department investigates approximately 50 rapes and sex offenses every year.
